All our Candles are hand poured in Bundaberg Queensland Australia. We use only high quality ingredients and each candle is made to the highest standard.
We use only RSPO palm wax from sustainable sources. Palm wax is harder, prettier and has a much better scent throw than soy wax candles.
Let me tell you about JAACS Candles, where it all started, where we’ve been, and where we are headed. Let’s start with the name. JAACS is an acronym of the first letters of the first names of the people that started the business. Jodie, Andrew, Andrew, and Cindy. JAACS was born in the kitchen of a very small, rented unit in Emerald Qld. Andrew Monk was living there alone and liked lighting candles. He liked lighting them so much that he used to light them every night as a sort of ritual. What he didn’t like was the sort of candles that he could buy in the shops. They were either pillar candles that tunneled, scented candles that he found overpowering or container candles that came in a painted jar so you couldn’t see the flame as the candle burned down. None of this was good enough for Andrew. So, he ordered some candle making stuff online, did some research and set about making candles that he thought would suit him better than the candles he could buy. His first candles were made from paraffin wax, and he attempted to make a pillar candle that would burn all the way to the edge and not tunnel or dribble. This proved to be a spectacular failure with his first firing getting wax on the table, wax on the floor, wax on the rug, and even wax on the dog!
He then decided to change waxes, did some more research, and bought 25 kg of wax in 5 kg bags and every kind from palm wax to soy wax to blended wax. The best performing wax was palm wax that made beautiful pillar candles. Trouble was, they also dribbled like crazy when the melt pool reached the edge of the candle. This led to him experimenting with container candles. He has made candles in just about every kind of container you can think of until finally settling on the apothecary jars that he uses today.
Andrew makes beautiful candles which don’t tunnel, you can watch the flame all the way down through the clear glass jar. Palm wax looks like ice when its solid but goes clear when its melted so the candles form a wonderful melt pool with a surface that looks like a stary sky. And they are scented just right. He has blended and experimented, stunk the house out, wrinkled some noses, been told “oh, I like that one!” and finally settled on a range of fragrances that are not too strong but very pleasant and have an excellent cold and hot throw.
Jodie, Andrew, and Cindy liked Andrews candles so much that they encouraged him start his own business and JAACS candles was born. We now have a range of melts and room sprays (thanks to Cindy), diffusers and candles all made right here in Bundaberg. We want our scents and our products to be an experience, not just a nice product, that’s why we try so hard to match the scent and color with a memory of an experience and our products have names like “Weekend away” or “Drinks at the bar”. We hope you love them just as much as we do.
